What If You Want to Give a Painting as a Gift? What Should You Commission?
Let's get straight to the point. In my opinion, these are some great ideas:
A beloved pet
A place that holds special meaning for someone
A symbol that means something to them
Their favorite flowers
Let's start with pets.
This one probably needs no explanation. We love our little companions so much!
My cat spent 19 years with me. He listened to so many of my stories, worked countless hours as my personal stress reliever, and although he's been gone for seven years now, he still lives on in our stories and in my heart.
I don't think I even need to explain why a painting of such a beloved creature could be an incredibly meaningful gift.
Next — a special place.
Let me explain what I mean.
Perhaps someone has taken a trip they remember more fondly than any other. A place where they felt truly happy. Or maybe there's one particular spot that holds precious memories?
I have a place like that. It's the village where I spent every summer of my childhood. I think I'd burst into tears if someone gave me a painting of it.
Although I sincerely hope nobody gets the idea of giving me a painting. :) Artist friends are the exception!
And here's where I need to interrupt myself for a moment, because I simply can't resist telling you how wonderful I think you are, if you're reading this.
It means there's someone special in your life, someone you're thinking about, someone whose happiness matters to you. You're taking the time to figure out what would make them happy, and you want to give them something truly meaningful.
Isn't that just magical?
Right, back to the subject.
A symbol.
I know for a fact that some people absolutely love symbols. Even if it's just their zodiac sign!
What matters is that the person believes the symbol brings them happiness, good luck, or success, or simply that it holds some special meaning for them. :)
We don't have to understand everything. It's enough that it matters to the person we're giving the gift to.
And finally — flowers.
Well, a classic. The older women get, the more they seem to love plants. That's just how it is. :)
Although I often hear that flowers in paintings are a cliché. Overdone, predictable, even a little tacky.
But!
First of all, it depends on how they're painted. And really, the way a subject is presented matters in every single example I've mentioned.
And secondly, even if something is considered boring or unfashionable today, give it a little time and it might become the next big thing. Everything comes full circle.
So if someone loves flowers, why not give them a painting of flowers?
I hope I've helped, at least a little. :)
