About the artist

My name is Jania

Art has been with me for as long as I can remember. As a child I used to say that I would become an artist. At twelve I began studying at an art school, and later continued my artistic education, completing my degree in monumental painting.

Today I paint mostly in acrylic on canvas. I like intense color, bold forms, and things that are a little less obvious. My paintings include people, animals, invented creatures, but also entirely ordinary objects and situations. I don’t hold on to one single topic — I’m more interested in the moment when something familiar starts to look different and takes on a new meaning.

Beauty does not exclude shadow

My paintings are often read as bright, colorful, sometimes even fairy-tale-like. But for me, color does not mean joy alone.

I’m interested in contradictions: calm that carries tension, something playful that also feels a little strange, beauty with a shadow beneath it. Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to everything that lives somewhere “between” and can’t be named all at once.

I don’t try to build a single story or hide answers in my paintings that you have to uncover. I like to leave space for the viewer.

The painting and the person

When a painting leaves my studio, it no longer belongs to me alone. Each person looks at it through their own experiences, memories, and associations — and may see something completely different than I do.

That is what I love most about art. A painting can simply catch attention with color, make you laugh, worry you a little, or remind you of something deeply personal.

If it stops you for even a moment and you find something of your own in it — that is already enough for me.

I’m also open to collaboration and individual projects. If you have an idea for a painting and want to entrust me with its interpretation — I’ll be happy to listen.

What interests me most is creating works that begin with your story, memory, or idea, but then pass through my sensitivity and the way I paint.
